The grandfather paradox
What is grandfather paradox?
Grandfather paradox is a time travel problem that deals with complexity of a time loop. The paradox provides us with a situation that if one, with the help of a time machine goes back to the past and kills his grandfather, how will the normal timeline be affected?
Logical thinking
The logical reasoning behind the paradox is that if one goes back to the past and kills his grandfather, then his father will not be born and thus he himself will not be born, therefore he will not be able to go back in the time and kill his grandfather, so his grandfather will be alive and so will be his father and so he will be born and the loop continues.
Possible solutions
Since the idea of time travel is still hypothetical, it's effects on our normal timeline are still unknown. But if we think a little logically, we can derive few solutions to the paradox. They may or may not be correct.
1) Alternate timeline: It is one of the few possible solutions to the problem. It states that it is possible that as one goes back and kills his grandfather, at that very instance an alternate timeline is created in which the person who killed his grandfather is no longer a part of i.e. he is not born in that timeline, while in his original timeline everything is the same, the way it was before he time travelled.
2) Original timeline is affected: It is the solution that states that killing of his grandfather affects his current timeline and no extra timeline is created. The moment he kills his grandfather he himself ceases to exists and the original future from where he came is changed. A future where his grandfather was killed in the past and there is no existence of his father or him.
3) Original Event: This solution states that the event of the person killing his grandfather was already an event of the present timeline.
It means that the person going back in time when returns to the future after killing his grandfather, he sees that the future is unchanged while there is no new timelime created as the event of him going back and killing his grandfather had already occured in the past and it has led to the present future. This hypothesis basically says that the thungs go the way they are planned and whatever we do, it is already a part of the plan.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I would say that time travel is still not possible, thus it is currently impossible to know what will exactly happen. We don't even know if time travel is possible at all or not. But if such a scenario does happen then it is still uncertain whether what complexities it might bring us. If anyone tries to create the grandfather paradox then it may be possible that one of three may be its its solution or the solution may be something other than this which we still have not figured out.

See michio kaku's explanation on the time travel...he difines a completely new perspective
ReplyDeleteIn the second solution..how xamu say that another timeline is not created as if he killed his grandfather and at the same he ceased to exist and existence of this Is also now void...so..don't u think again a time line will be created in which no member of his family existed?.

DeleteI mentioned there that no extra timeline will be created
DeleteDon't u think again it's a paradox?.
